Examples of Technology
Technology in the classroom has become more important than ever. Aside from my ability to use technology that enhances instruction, I want my students to come away from their time in my classroom with new and useful skills related to technology and Web 2.0 application. Please follow the links below to see some of the Web 2.0 tools I have used thus far to enhance my teaching.
Class CourseSite
I created this coursesite as a place for parents, students, and the teacher to communicate, house information, and collaborate.
Class Blog_
This class blog will allow students to communicate and publish their work.
Class Wiki
This Camp Half-Blood wiki was created to integrate with a unit plan on mythology and The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan. Students use the wiki as an application for a character they've chosen. Once they click on the link, they are taken to a template which they will fill in using character clues from the novel.

YA Lit Wikis I Have Created
These wikis on YA Lit were created for a college course with two other classmates. The final wiki, for The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I created on my own.
Speak - Laurie Halse Anderson
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas - John Boyne
Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher
The Lightning Thief
Podcast
Thirteen Reasons Why
I created this podcast, along with two colleagues, in a college literature and education course. This links nicely with the wiki we created, and is an exciting project I'd love to introduce to my students. The podcast was created using GarageBand and SoundCloud made it possible to upload it.
Xtranormal
Green Eggs and Ham
The first link below is an xtranormal I created to demonstrate the importance of intonation and gestures when performing reader's theater. This video shows what not to do. I used this in an 8th grade English classroom.
The Wave
The second xtranormal link contains a video I made for a unit on The Wave. I made this as an example of what students could create after writing a dialogue based on a section of the novel.
Smart Board Theorist Presentation
Below is a video of two classmates and I giving a presentation on Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, MD., and the classroom management theory of Love and Logic. We gave this presentation using SmartBoard technology. Through this assignment we were able to learn the interactive whiteboard technology and show our mastery of it in practice, while also learning about a valuable tool in classroom management that helps teachers build relationships with their students.
Powerpoint version of smartboard presentation
This is a version of the SmartBoard presentation I helped create. Because it had to be converted to a PowerPoint, it is missing some of the SmartBoard features, but this gives a taste of what I am able to create.
smart technology video
This is a video created by the Graduate Teacher Certification (GTC) Program in the College of Education at Grand Valley State University. In the video I, along with others in my program, discuss the benefits of learning SmartBoard technology in the GTC Program.
Instructional Presentations
Below are a few of the presentations I've created with both Prezi and PowerPoint.
I created this Prezi on Bamboo People, along with three other classmates, to give a summary of this piece of international YA lit and share some of themes the novel presents.
I created this Prezi to show the results from the geographical study of obesity in Michigan.
This Prezi gives a summary of Act II of Henry IV Part 1.
This is a short PowerPoint I created to review historical fiction with my 8th grade English students.
This PowerPoint briefly goes over what a Banzai attack in WWII was. In all of my presentations I strive to present striking images and minimal words, unless the purpose is for note-taking.
