Andria Barberi
About Me:
I grew up in a small town in rural Michigan. After college I decided I needed to broaden my horizons, and spent the next few years traveling and teaching English abroad in Spain and Japan. After returning to the United States, I worked for a corporation and then returned to graduate school to pursue my life-long dream to become an educator.
I am currently enrolled in the Graduate Teacher Certification Program at Grand Valley State University. Through the GTC Program I have been able to work toward certification while student teaching for two semesters in the same secondary school. Allocating all of my time to one school has given me a huge benefit in understanding everything from curriculum to professional development, while also giving me the opportunity to engage in Project Based Learning and Action Research.
Through my student teaching internship, I have been pleased to find my love of teaching grow and to find that my efforts toward integrating technology into both instruction and student activities have made an impact on student engagement and achievement. I have also found my experience in communicating cross-culturally has helped me in communicate effectively inside and outside of the school whether with students, parents, or my fellow colleagues.
I am excited to use my skills and experience as I further my teaching experience in a school culture that I can contribute to in a positive way.
